Maidstone Vs Weekend – Results

Posted in Uncategorized on November 10, 2008 by maidstonedemon

The Decklists will be going up in another post but here are the results from the VS Weekend in Maidstone, which, to be honest, had an abysmal turnout considering the numbers we normally get to our events. Thanks to Anthony for making the trip over from Ireland. Read more »

X-GENE DECODED

This review nearly didn’t happen. Stupid e-mail spam filters! Mine decides to let through half a ton of junk that I never read, yet the one thing I’ve been waiting for most goes into limbo. It wasn’t until fellow reviewer, Dave Pyrah emailed me asking if we’d got the card I wanted that I started to panic. A quick email to Ben Seck followed and the destination of the UDE email with all the juicy previews finally became clear, the only problem being I was working back to back day shifts and night shifts (32 hours in a 42 hour period) meaning thinking time with regards what to write was going to be seriously short. Thank heaven for fellow contributors.

Anyway enough with the waffling, I’m guessing you all want to see the card…… Read more »

ASS

OK, so after writing the A/RSe blog and using it at the local end of the month tournament, and at the weekend, (it went 6 for 8 by the way) I kind of wanted to make another rear based deck, and that’s when I came up with my latest creation – the A/SS deck! (Just for our American brethren), now there were two ways I could have made this up, with three teams being abbreviated to double S (Sinister Syndicate, Secret Society and Secret Six) and after looking though the teams, it seemed that the Secret Society had the closet synergy with the avengers, in the form of having lots of leaders and mild character theft. Golden Age BYOS – A Review

Golden Age BYOS-A Review
by Felix Hughes

Having covered both Modern and Silver Age sets for Bring Your Own Set tournaments, there is only Golden Age left. In some ways this is bad for me as there are even more sets for me to think about. On the other hand, there are generally fewer viable decks from those sets, making life a little bit easier. Rather than go through each set entirely I am going to pick out a few ideas and maybe a team or 2 that may be worth thinking about. As before I’m going to start with DC and with the oldest set. General Musings

General Musings

Things have been very quiet around here in the last two weeks. I’ve just started a new job at Tesco’s, so we had to cancel our Tuesday night tournament, rescheduling it for Saturday. However I have had a lot of time to think about decks. These are the ideas that I’m currently playing around with. Read more »

OK, just if you didn’t know about me, I’m the kind of person who makes up some quick janky decks around some sometimes very bad premises (yes, that’s right, I’m from the UK!). Anyway, that is kind of how this latest deck got made. Read more »

Marvel Evolution Previews

Posted in Uncategorized on October 1, 2008 by maidstonedemon

Best news of recent weeks, the Marvel Evolution previews start next week!

Even better news is that The British Initiative will be getting our very own preview card, according to the message from TBS on Vs Realms today.

I’m thinking that we’ll put multiple reviews up of the card from the various writers on site.

Seeing what is on the list, I’d love to get Mr.Sinister, but would also be happy with any of the Exiles or Marauders.

Good Times!

Silver BYOS – A Review

Well, for those who managed to make their way through my last entry, it’s time to move on to the Silver Age sets (and for those that didn’t I’m taking a look at the Bring Your Own Set format and trying to come up with a bunch of ideas for decks that people may want to try).

The Silver Age sets are: Heralds of Galactus, Marvel Team-Up, Crisis and Legion of Superheroes. There is an awful lot of potential here, as this is the period when VS was really hitting its stride with interesting sets full of cool and powerful cards, as well as Legion of Superheroes. There are several effective decks from this format. As before I’m going to start with DC. The difference is that this time I actually have an idea what I’m talking about, having tried some of these and having seen the others in action. Read more »
